Every year, three billion beverage containers are consumed in Queensland, making it the most littered state in Australia, with 45% more plastic rubbish in its environment.Container Exchange Ltd was appointed by the Queensland Government to establish a state-wide Container Refund Scheme to address this problem.
We aimed to create a unique launch moment to build awareness for, and participation in, the Container Refund Scheme to get Aussies to collect and return containers at one of 230 refund sites for a 10-cent refund, or donate to local community groups. To symbolise the adverse environmental effects of litter on our natural waterways, we partnered with local conservationist and artist David Day to build a shockingly large-scale fish made from plastic-container waste placing it in Brisbane.
